A15 Mk1 lack of bass

  • Hi there,
it seems that my A15Mk1 has very little bass on ++ channel even with bass pot all open..while it has a lot of high and middle pot seems to act more on high frequency making the sound very sharp and sometimes thin even at high volumes...
Is it possible that this problem is due to a faulty capacitor on tonestack?
Can u please help me with some debug? I mean what components I have to check on the schematic to try to figure out if there is some faulty component?
    Thanks again.

Has no one experienced what I have described in the previous post?
It's not a real lack of bass but it's like I had a (virtual) presence control turn to maximum...don't know how to explain...
any help, hint is really appreciated.
    Thanks.

    hi krusty,

i think the bass is depending on the speaker...
I have a celestion century vintage loaded 1x12 box and it has plenty of bass. If I play the A15 through the Marshall Combo of a friend the bass isn´t as big and deep as on the 1x12.

In general the A15 has less bass than monsters like the recti because of it´s small output tranny I think.

To get more Bass you could try to modify the tonestack or even use larger coupling caps. But I think this will get too muddy....you´ll have to try it yourself. ;)

well I use an ADA splitstack cabinet 2x12 with Celestion G12K-85.
As I told in my second post it's not a real lack of bass but a presence of very high freq that make the sound very sharp and thin...
imagine an amp with the presence control turned to the maximum...this should give u an example of the sound I got.
If i give more mid freq it becomes sharper...
I keep my settings on ++ channel as (thinking about a clock)
    bass 12 o clock
    mid 1 o clock
    high 10 o clock
smooth switch is in center pos.
Is i use smooth switch the situation changes..but seems the sound becomes muddy...this is why I was thinking about a faulty cap..but I don't know how to test!
    Thanks again for your hints

    Indeed thats strange.

    Did you check your wiring?
After that do an optical control by just comparing partvalues with the schematic.

    good luck
