I just completed the construction of J5 and its time to hear its sound.
First, I want to thank the help of the people at this forum.
Noise is really low for a class A guitar amp. Wiring just like the manual is important, and also the hum pot I installed helps significatively to reduce noise.
Because I did not get yet the 1x12 cabinet I only could test this amp with a unmounted speaker, so there is a big loss of bass and mid bass frequencies. Even so, my Ibanez AR300 from 1982 sounds excellent, with just the chime I was looking for. I am looking forward to receive de cabinet and hear the full sound of this amp!
The OT transformer is a Hammond 125ESE wired for 16Ohm, and with exception of the hum pot, everything else is like the schematic.
I prefer the sound with gain on, even for clean sounds, as I like to use the guitar volume for adding a touch of distortion when required. So I will delete the gain switch and its wiring.
For normal playing I set Master Volume at about one half. There is plenty of volume for home playing. I do not need more power.
I will record some sounds with a Shure SM57 when my cabinet arrives. I will load it with one Celestion Alnico speaker, so I hope the sound will improve a lot.
Best regards
Alvaro
