My instructions make reference to capacitor C1 = 1uF/160v.
My kit does not contain this capacitor. Is this an error in the schematic or am i missing a part?

Don't care about the voltage. There are capacitors which have the same values but not the same voltage.

So i use a capacitor with the correct capacitance and ignore the voltage?

you need this cap. A 1 µF/50...63 V mylar cap would be OK.Bernd
