alpha pot mounting

  • Hi I was just wonder if in a15mk1 alpha pot MUST be insulated from the chassis with some plastic "ring" or something similar...just as you know to prevent hum and some current flowing from the ground star re-entering the pot through the chassis...
In my kit I did not find any plastic part to insulate them..I was just wondering..
    Any help is really apreciated!

    Hi all,
I don't see a reason to isolate the pots housing from the chassis, the only idea could be to isolate them and then connect them with one wire to star ground to follow the star grounding scheme. But grounding them by beeing connected to the amps chassis doesn't mean any problem.

Just to follow up on Martin's reply:

Think of the pot shells as an extension to the chassis. It is not connected to anything (except the chassis), so it will not cause ground loops, unless you solder something to it.

In some amp designs, the ground buss is soldered to the pot shells. In such a case, you would need to isolate the pots from the chassis to avoid ground loops.

Short if I have isolated all potenciometer from to chassis and created soldered to the pot shells and this wire will be conect in the star grouding will be all is OK?
Because in me kit A15mk1 deluxe missing original terminative ring(or washwr) for corection mechanical assembly pots.Pots has diameter about 7mm and schassis has holes aproximately 10mm . I must use me private plastics terminative ring for mouting.

Yes , I now it is not problem I m from Czech republic this result is not as to as optimaly when Klaus send me this part it is long time. I have in this moment comlet mechanicaly assembly an finishig with this.
Maybe I have one question for you. In me kits I have 2x condensators 0.68uF and 1x 1uf. In the schematics is use 3x 1uf (as to cathode condensator.) I m use 0.68uf in the Gain channel and 1uf for clean chanel .If I remember this 0.68 uF is usin in the marshal amps.
    It is OK?

  • Re: alpha pot mounting

    Hi tube,
don't be shy, if the caps are the wrong ones, ask Klaus for sending you the right values. You're right, 0.68uF is also possible, I would use them in the second channel and 1uF for V1a (clean channel).

    Martin
