a15Mk1 earth (ground) connection

  • Hi there,
I just bought a a15mk1 kit and I'm trying to assemble it.
My question is about earth wire/connection.
I have soldered it from the power plug to the chassis then I tried to measure the resistence between the power cord ground pin and the chassis (as specified in mounting instruction) with a multimiter...
the instruction says "Before assembling the yellow wires please connect the power cord and check with
your multimeter, that it will show 0 Ohm between chassis and earth (I always measure
against earth in the wall outlet to be absolutely sure) and about 100 Ohm between the
star ground lug and earth. Please disconnect the power cord before going on wiring
    the power supply!"

Well It was like I have an open circuit...well I saw that my chassis is painted (deluxe kit) so the lug on the chassis was insulated...just removed some paint and now I have 0 ohms beteween power cord ground pin an the chassis..Then I measured the resistance between the ground star but is less than 100 Ohms as written in the instruction...is quite close to 0 ohm too..
Any problem about it? Was it right to remove some paint from the back part of the chassis because the lugs were insulated?

Hi Krusty, I told Mad this Problem and it was correct to remove the paint by the powerground! Now you can measure from Powerplug to Chassisground: 0 Ohm or maybe a few ,like 3Ohm. It´s OK.

From Powerplug to Starground you must have 100 Ohm!

    Good luck for building, Hatti

I don't have 100 Ohm from power plug to starground but less than 100 Ohm
Let me try to explain to see if I have done something wrong..
well if I'm not wrong stargound is connected to the earth by the chassis...so if I have 0 ohm from power cord to the chassis how can I have 100 Ohm from starground to the power cord? Is there any resistor between the two grounds that I did not put?
Is there any problem if that resistance is less than 100 Ohm?
    Thanks!
    Krusty

In former times Mad elevated the ground from earth with a 100Ohm Resistor in case of humming but he decided not to install the resistor anymore because in the worst case bad things can happen with that, so between ground and earth should be something around ZERO Ohms.

    Crank it!

  • Re: a15Mk1 earth (ground) connection

Hi Swen, thanks to clear this! I have one of the first A15Mk1+ and I have this resistor in the amp. So in the new ones, there is no resistor between chassisground and starground!

    Nice greatings, Hatti

    Hi guys,
shame on me, I've changed all kits and also changed all manuals for the standard versions, but haven't changed the manual for the A15 deluxe. But this will be my next work to do and I will also add the hint to remove the painting to ensure proper grounding.
    Regards,
    Martin
