I'd like to use two different effect systems with one amp (and with a footswitch).
Something like: signal from guitar is divided with y-cable to two different effects and from the effects the two signals go to a/b box which directs the wanted effect to amp. How would I do this, does a normal a/b box work the other way around?

Re: 2 different effects selectable to one amp
Hello gepetto1001

Realy easy to realize,

you can build 2 A/B-Boxes
and put one in front of the two effectlines
and the other one after the effectline...But: You have to switch this two boxes the same way (A+A, B+B),
elsewhere there can't be a signal...Dont' t use a splitcable (called "Y-cable"),
because the noise from each of these effectlines
disturbs the other...A very good A/B-Box is here: http://www.singlecoil.com/docs/ab.pdf
This box closes the channel which is not in use (to ground)...Sorry if my english is bad :-\

Here's a picture of what I meant.

Hi Gepetto,
looks a little complicated to me. Why don't you just use a looper like this?

The result is to be the same.

Re: 2 different effects selectable to one amp
Would there be anywhere a schematic for making one such a switcher (with dpdt)?

Re: 2 different effects selectable to one amp
hi,
I think the best way to realize your intention is a a/b- true bypass looper. you can put two (or more) effects in each loop and switch between them...
a y-cabel or two a/b-boxes will cause a level- and/or sounddifference between the two signal pathways.ps: I see that forbi answered in the meantime... but his idea is exactly what I would recomment...

Would there be anywhere a schematic for making one such a switcher (with dpdt)?I built it this way:
[Blockierte Grafik: http://www.forbi.net/musik/Eff/Bypass.gif]
When there are no plugs inserted in loop 2 the signal is bypassed, so I can use it either as on/off switch or as A/B box. If you can read German, here's some more information:

Re: 2 different effects selectable to one amp
Are the loop 2's tips connected?
-
Re: 2 different effects selectable to one amp
yes and no
the jacks have a contact switch (see below). These contacts are closed when nothing is plugged in. Since the contact pins of both jacks are connected, there is a bypass bridge (which sort of connects the tips - but actually there are no tips at the moment, when nothing is plugged in ;)).
When you plug in something, the bypass is opened and the signal runs through the loop. In this case, the tips are NOT connected of course!
But this is only optional, the A/B box is working without the bypass, too.Forbi

Re: 2 different effects selectable to one amp
Sorry about the stupidish question and thank you for the answers -
I should have thought about the stereo jack etc.
I actually have couple of dpdt type switches with 4 lugs on each side
which I'm going to use.
Off to make one... -

I should have thought about the stereo jack etc.Hi Gepetto,
I think you got it right, but just for the sake of completeness:
Don't mix a stereo jack with the above mentioned contact switch. With a stereo jack you switch a ground connection, while the contact jack switches the signal line. You cannot use a stereo jack for the bypass in my schematic.
