J5Mk1 mod question

Hi!

Would the power transformer on the J5Mk1 be able to handle a 6L6GC output valve, given the output transformer was changed with another one rated at a higher wattage than the stock one?

Given, of course, the circuit was rewired for such a valve.

no problem, with a max. current of 120mA (plate voltage) and 4A (heater) for the Power Transformer this is possible !

Can the j5mk1 be converted to pushpull (2xel84) with the stock PT?
I know that 125E OT can handle 2xel84, but dont know if the PT have enought power for that?

I think the J5Mk1 PT is the same as in the M15Mk1 and A15Mk1 kits, right? (Looks like it in the pictures anyway)

Hi Stirfry,
the J5, M15 and A15 all use the same PT and OT, so this is possible. You have to add another power tube (EL84), a 12AX7/ECC83 for the PI (phase inverter stage) plus some other parts. AND you need to lower the output of the J5 preamp, otherwise you will overload the PI even at low volumes.

it's a P1pre+18watt

But i can't use the same resistors/cap for power suply because the scematic is for PT with 275V!
Can you help me? what caps and resistor i need! need 360 and 315v!
