M15Mk1, pretty high voltages...is it safe?

  • Hi everyone.

I'd really appreciate some help with this.

I've wired and assembled the power supply to the point (in the manual) where I measure the voltages from rectifier (+), PS output (c22 +) and the heaters at the tube sockets.

I got these measurements: Rectifier, 800v-> , output cap, 800v->, heaters, ~7v (apparently normal), so is this normal or have I done something wrong?

    Seems pretty high these voltages.

    Thanks in advance

Yeap, I had my meter on AC :P

    Thanks for the fast reply!!

I've now put together the rest of the kit but...something's wrong.

I switch power on, no smoking parts, nothing out of ordinary.
I switch from standby to on, nothing special, and that's it! ;D

I only get this "farting" sound from the speaker when I crank volume way past 12 o'clock.

All voltages throughout the circuit seems to be about 30v more than the figures in schematic, except the heaters, they're ok (6,4v)
and plate voltage of power tubes are 50v...way too high!

I've checked the parts layout, checked the wiring, checked some bad solder joints but nothing happens.

Any suggestions on what to look for?

    Whooaa!!

    It's alive!!

I had some serious consulting from another board and managed to figure out the problem.
It was the cathode capacitor (C19) that was apparently shorting. I took it off and vóila, it was alive. Then I put it back and everything was ok; voltages throughout the circuit are now fine and it sounds good ;D

Now all that's left is to build the cabinet and take this baby into real test, to our band's rehearsals.
