Two questions abot the M15MK1

  • Hello,

I am experienced in solid state amp building only but I think I can get through with tube amps.
I am tempted by the M15MK1 which sounds closer to the Marshall sound but :

    - is there some way to modify it with EL34s instead of EL84s ? ( I suppose in changing the bias voltages and a few resistors ?)
    - where can you buy that front panel that is talked about but nowhere to be found at MusikDing or am I blind ?
    Friendly.

    Hi jptrol,
changing the M15 from EL84 to EL34 would mean to change the power transformer, the output transforer too, and this is pretty expensive compared to the kit price. So others are using the power stage in stereo (2x15W) or connect the preamp out to another power amplifier.
The front panel is available at musikding in the madamp section.

    Martin

What else would need to be changed than the transformers?
How the wiring of the tube sockets/power supply differs from the EL84?

You'd hold up much more beauty with your fingers cut off. (My wife's wise words)

    Hi OscarVein,
as the El34 are normally used with higher voltage (about 400V-500V with class AB), you would need other capacitors and so on. In the end you will have a power stage comparable to the JCM800 or other 50W EL34 power stages ;)

    Martin
