Newbie question about the Acapulco LED...

  • Hey everybody, I'm new! Just built the Acapulco, it's my first ever pedal and also first ever electronic device I've built.

Everything works except for the LED however, and it's driving me nuts! I'm pretty sure I missed the following thing in the guide (attached to this post).

And here's a link to the schematic: https://www.musikding.de/docs/musikding…ulco_schalt.pdf

When I thought I finished building the +9v slot was still open in the 3PDT pcb, and figured that had to go to the 9v connecting thing, is that correct? If so, what other wire did i miss to hook up the LED to the switch? Cause I can't see it in the wiring guide :(

    Thanks!!

  • Hi,and welcome,congrats to your first Build :D ,

The 9V pad on the 3pdt PCB had to go to the 9V Pad of the Main PCB if the DC Jack +9V is connected to it,if the +9V DC Jack is connected to the 3pdt PCB the LED should work if in right Direction !! and the 9V+ Pad goes to main PCB to supply it with Voltage.

    Best regards,
    Micha

Thank you ;D And thanks so much for the help! Hmm I think I started with having the DC Jack connected to the main PCB in the top slot, and then had the main PCB connected to the 3pdt pcb with the slots on the right (bottom right for main PCB, top right for 3pdt pcb). This is kinda what I thought had to happen according to the images in the installation guide, but this way the 9v slot on the left side of the 3pdt switch was still left open.

With this setup I plugged in for the first time (see image 1), but I messed up my wiring with the cable plugs (switched input and grnd, whoops), would there be a chance the led blew up this way?

After realising and correcting the jack mistake I tried connecting the leftover 9v slot on the left side of the 3pdt pcb to the DC jack too (see image 2), but that also didn't make the LED work. It was a shot in the dark haha.

I'm sure the problem is in here somewhere and I think a lot of the confusion comes from the parts not matching the images in the installation guide (see image 3). I really want to figure this out hehe ;D

PS: please excuse the poor soldering, burnt wires and other horrors in these photos hehe. So far the project has been very... educational :P

  • Hi,o.k your wiring shoulb be o.k this way,the 9V Pad on the left Side is for Wiring DC Jack,if its on the Side Mounted. But check first your Solder Joints of the 3pdt,them looks very Bad,heat em up again with some solder first.

The LED couldntt blown in this way,but I think you have it soldered in in the wrong direction (+/-) ,if it is so,it doesen´t light anyway.

Did you have a Multimeter? So you can Measure if in the middle Pin of 3pdt you get Ground and you can measure if ther is Voltage (+/-) at the LED.

I think you have to turn your LED around or check its Solder Joints and them of the 3pdt.

    best regards,
    Micha

Revisiting the solder joints on the 3pdt switch en LED did it! It's working :) Thanks so much for you help, I can go back to sleeping at night haha
