Hi guys
I've just started building the A15MkII. So far only the ground bus and some of the wiring on the backside of the "haptplatine" done. I'm not going to rush through it ![]()
Anyways: From the clips I've heard, and which made me order the kit, I really like the sound of the clean channel. However, I'm not really a hi gain dude (more blues, funk and traditional rock) so I thought about reducing R33 for a little less gain, as Martin suggests in the manual.
The first resistor that is installed is R25. This is one of the cathode resistors on V2b of the "++" boost stage. Has anyone experimented with different values for R25/R26?
As I said, I'm no metal guy. Sure, I do love the all-out singing high gain tone of a Mesa too, but for most of the time the american high gain (possibly "Soldano"?) sound isn't part of my (crappy...) playing.
Sound wise, I'd take Rory Gallagher over Vai or Satriani any day of the week. Chris Rea and Mark Knopfler over... pretty much anyone. (No disrespect meant - Vai and Satch and those guys are absolutely amazing guitarists. It's just that I'm a middle aged sentimental old fart
)
Also, I've begun to look at a speaker for the finished amp. Given the sounds I'm after, do you have any suggestions?
For example, I've been looking at cheap cabinets like this one

This particular one can be bought unloaded, or with the 25W Celestion greenback or a 60 W Celestion vintage. I reckon A15 would kill the 25 W greenback?
Anyway, I'd be very interested in your thoughts on a good element for the A15, with priority being getting a cleanish "Fender" type of sound from the clean channel.
