Madamp A15Mk2 Deluxe

  • Hello,

I have a few questions about this amp..

    - Is easy to add a master volume if you are a beginner with electronics?

    - Is this the highest gain amp?

    - How long would it take for someone with basic soldering skills (changing pickups) to build this amp?

    - How long is the shipping time to Sweden?

    Thanks

  • Hello,

    - Each channel already has a master volume!

    - Compared to what? At least this amp has enough gain to most applications.

    - Depends on how much crafting skills you have, depends on how well you understand the circuit, depends on your environment (tools etc.), depends on your ambitions (enclosure, design), depends on how many bugs you've got to find in the end and many more. No one can tell.

    - Shipping only knows one of those shop owners in this forum...

  • Thank you for your reply.

I meant compared to the other amps available at musikding. :)
The A15mk2 seems to be the most versatile amp with the FX-loop and high-gain for the harder kind of metal.

  • Yes it's the one having most gain (perhaps except for the J5 which has also much gain). And it's quite versatile, too...

BUT: one can argue if it makes that much sense to use an fx loop in an amp which gets into saturation at higher volumes. And it's not sure you like the amp's distortion only because it's much of it. The A15 sound very "American", very characteristic and for example me - I wouldn't like it and would prefer the M15, just because of its totally different sound.

  • Yeah it's very difficult to know if you like the distortion or not if you can't try it yourself.
I've been watching some youtube videos and trying to compare the M15 to A15.
I like the tone this guy has http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpYEqi_SECE from the M15.

Which one would you say sounds the best if you play heavy rock 'n roll with humbuckers, Deep Purple riffs like Burn, speed king, and fast thrash metal (Think Megadeth, Metallica) with alot of mid-range?
But also some cleaner Hendrix stuff..

I am now considering getting the M15 but I am not sure if it has that thrash metal type of sound.

    Thanks

  • No, the second sample is quite different from the A15 sound. The first channel of the A15 has the same number of amplification stages but the A15 is much smoother and less distorting. Please also be aware that the guy has boosted the M15 with an EQ in front of it.

  • I've just read my statement again and it might be a bit confusing. For clarification: the 1st channel of the A15 has less distortion then the 2nd channel of the M15 and a different sound, the 2nd channel of the A15 has much more gain but an even more different sound :)

  • Thanks..

Is it possible to get high gain (like the van-halen clip) from the M15-model at low volumes? I can't see any gain-knob on the amp only 2 volume and 1 master volume

  • The master volume of the M15 is nearly fully turned down in the clip as you can see, this is low volume ;) The M15 second channel has a volume & master volume, so this is what you'tre looking for - but as said please be aware that you need a booster to get the sound in the youtube clip from the M15...

    Martin
