a15mk2 channel 2 volume

  • Hi all!

I've built an a15mk2 amplifier a few years ago, I use it almost daily and am still very happy with it. There is one thing however that keeps bugging me and that is the volume of channel 2 (distortion). If the volume of channel 1 is at about 25-30%, the volume of channel 2 needs to be at about 60-70% (with 50% gain) for an equal volume.

Is that normal? And if not, what could be the problem and how could I fix it?

Last time I checked, all voltages were well within range, I don't get any hum, clicks or other strange behaviour. The pots for gain and volume seem to work properly (they add gain and volume as expected), but I just don't get the same volume levels as on the clean channel. Could it have anything to do with a faulty tube or something?

Then I have another question: i wanted to check the voltages ones more (just to be sure), but I simply cannot find the documentation anywhere. I also lost the original email, since I changed my email address. Is there any way to get the documentation back? Or at least the scheme on the final pages with the correct voltages so I can check my amp?

Thank you very much in advance!
    Jasper

  • Anyone please? Or could somebody else with an a15 perhaps share their experience: is it normal that channel 2 is considerably less loud? Thank you!

  • Okay, I found the manual again and had some time left so I checked all voltages again. Everything seems in order.
I did notice that the smooth switch looked a bit dodgy (I had some problems with my soldering gun becoming too hot and actually melting the plastic of the switch a bit), so I decided to replace the whole thing.

my question: I don't have 2 watt resistors, so is it okay if I use 1/4 watt instead for R53 and R54?

I also did some testing without the smooth switch and at first glance it seems that both channels are much more equal in volume, so could it be that this was the problem all along..? I'll do some more testing later, just to be sure.

    Thanks in advance!
