Hi-freq sound at fat and normal/High Volume Madamp G2

  • Hi,

I just finished my G2 amp. Using a Celestion tube speaker.

I got some problems. Its fine on smooth setting as long I dont go on highest volume. On fat and normal I get this Hi frequency noise. And spacry/scratchy sound.

I get the noise if I use a single mic on the guitar aswell, but if I switch over so the guitar uses 2 mics(bridge and middle for example) it disappears.

I got two videos where im trying to describe the problem. Whatch them please.

    Vid 1 is like 40mb, vid 2 is 16mb.

    Please help me

  • You have crosstalk somewhere in your amp, most probably you have to move the wiring about until you find the wires that are affecting each other. You can do this by having the amp make the noise and physically move the wires about, use an insulated stick for this!

The noise changes as you use two pickups as the impedence of two in parallel is much lower than of one alone, using a buffer before the amp would probably stop the noise as well, something like a Boss pedal in bypass.

I found your video instructive, by the way, I built my G2 2 years ago and never noticed that I had the wrong smooth/fat switch, mine only has either smooth or fat, there is no middle position. I suppose I could ask Klaus nicely for the proper switch.

    Helpful website here.

  • Ok, thanks for your answer.

Can I use a pen made of wood as an insulated stick?

Why is the puckup problem only on the G2 and not on the other amps I've got?
