Strange behaviour at power off A15MK2

  • Hi, I have just finished my A15MK2, and it works fine and sounds good on both channels. One thing I noticed though, that I have not experienced in my other tube Amp (Marshall 4203), is a strange behaviour at power off. If I have the volume on the guitar turned up, and hit a chord and turn of the standby switch the sound dies off. Then when I turn off the main switch the sound comes back again and dies again. Is this normal? Is it related to a cap being discharged?

I also have the old "no 0 volume on channel 2", i.e even if the volume pot on ch2 is completely off, there is a small amount of sound.

  • Hi miika71,
I haven't recognized that behaviour at power off and because of the missing plate voltage (when standby is used) there should be no sound when switching off the amp. Is the wiring of the two switches as it should?
Regarding the crosstalk, the "small amount" should be very small when using the new Mk2 layout of the "mainboard".
    Regards,
    Martin

  • Hi Stefan,
but this could only be the case, when you only wait a few seconds after turning off standby before you completely turn off the amp. After waiting a longer time (e.g. for a minute) after turning off standby you don't have any plate voltage at all, so the tube won't work...
    Regards,
    Martin

  • Hi , yes thats right, it only occurs if I switch off the main directly after the standby. If I wait ~30 seconds before i switch off the main it is quiet. So i guess everything is fine then!

I have heard from some people that you should always switch off a tube amp directly with the main switch, to "discharge the capacitors properly", and then switch off the standby. What do you say about that?
