This is a dead place...

  • Not much going on here, huh...

I´ve just (almost) completed my A15MK2 and I´ll try to report back what I´m doing as I´ll mod the amp a bit.

Would be nice if we could bring this place back to life as it - sadly - seems like MAD has abandoned the ship...

The Madamps are nice desings, but quite hard to build, so let´s help each other out, OK?

    - I´ll start by posting drilling plans to "deliturko".
    - Alfarre/Stephan: The fat switch is active on both channels in my amp as well. It does not introduce hum in my amp as there´s a hum going on all the time...
(As it is impossible to answer questions like: "There´s an hum in my amp, Whats wrong?" I´ve got a friend helping me with this.)

This mod for a A15Mk1,was posted long ago:

Yes I know A15 Mk1 is intended to be an amp with highgainfeatures, BUT,
1 I like clean Fender sound = Brownface
    2 I like bluescrunch
3 1 dont like highgain, to lifeless to my opinion.

Its OK if you disagree, this is just a suggestion.

This is a mod to get an A15 Mk1 as a Fenderstyle cleanamp and with crunchy channel 2 with volumeincreased solo capabilities = ++

A15 Mk1 mods for ”NonHighGain” guitarists

In ++ position, R 18 before gainpot was increased to 1,1 M ,split in 680K with new C11 1nF (decresade to make it less trebelish) in parallell over the 680K resistor connected to ground and a serial 470K. This results in less gain on ++ and less treble.
R 25 reduced to 56K and R26 increased to 56K results in a + position more cruchy/bluesy and ++ position now with proper volumeincrease for solos and less distortion than originally.

R33 reduced to 110 K for totally lower gain on channel 2

Cutting C14 out (V2 made channel 2 to ”lame” and lifeless, took the edge away, so I continue to use C14.

    R18 680K increased to 1,1M (680K + 470K)
    C11 2,2nF reduced to 1nF
    R25 68K reduced to 56K
    R26 33K increased to 56K
    R33 220K reduced to 110K

    Did anyone try it?

    Start posting guys!!

  • I tried it, since I don't play High Gain, but I didn't like the sound.
In the end I only reduced R33 to 120K, reduced R8 to 33k and increased R9 to 67k

Liked it that way, altough ++ is still adding distortion. But I like that sound more than just the volume increase.

  • Hi Polifemo again,
I have an A15Mk1 loaded with a Celestion V30 into a custom build cabinet.

I made the following "mods" (authorized ones ;)

    1) "tone stack" to get more bass response on the clean channel (it works)

    2) "pedal switch" (it works BUT pedal leds don't light up, can't figure out why)

    3) with the 12v from the "pedal switch" mod I feed a neon light (cold cathode one for PC) that lights from inside the black perspex custom panel I did for it. Gotta make photos and post them!!!

I also would prefer a "cleaner" clean channel (blackface) but before doing other mods I'll try a cleaner loudspeaker: any suggestion?

    Thanks
    Mauro

Celestion Century do not break up easily and have a nice "full range sound".
Even more efficient than the V30´s!

Ok I'll first try with it, and maybe I can get from a friend a G12T-75.

What do you think about this one?
